For anyone interested...the two buildings being constructed on Potranco Rd in front of Stevens HS is a Dollar Store and possibly another auto parts place.

To the man that inspired one of the greatest Southern rock bands of all time!

Quote:
Lynyrd Skynyrd's Inspiration is a Free Bird at Last

Leonard Skinner, the high school gym teacher who inspired the band name Lynyrd Skynyrd, has died at age 77 in a Riverside, Florida nursing home.

Skinner, born Forby Leonard Skinner, never intended to become a piece of rock-and-roll history. He was simply enforcing a dress code at Robert E. Lee High School in the late 1960s when he fatefully sent a few teenagers to the principal's office for violating new rules about hair length. "The hair had to be two fingers above the eyebrows, couldn't touch the collar," Skinner explained in an interview several years ago. "One of the ones I sent down was in this band ... called the One Percent," he recalled, referring to the band that would later become Lynyrd Skynyrd. (full story)
As I am originally from Jacksonville, Skynyrd has a special place in my heart. I can still remember when the local news reported the plane crash in 1977, when I was a freshman in high school. It was a sad day.

Godspeed, Coach Skinner!

Cheers! M2

p.s. Here's an interview with Coach Skinner

Default "Silence Is The Loudest Sound." -proverb

Oh, I've thought about it millions of times myself for years.....and I strongly sense so many more people of so many different walks indeed have as well but simply will not dare admit it considering how deeply-ingrained Certain Cultural Guilt Inculcation runs, perhaps even subconsciously, some might say. I even once read somewhere that historically not all cultures worldround have frowned down on it, rather some have even seen honour in it.....but perhaps CD is not the place at all to in-depthly venture into such a thing..... .....though I *have* indeed spoken openly with numerous others in person over the years who have also ponderingly-thought about such intimately-thanatological matters.......

Live around there so I'm interested. I posted your same question on the Potranco/1604 thread. Do you know what auto parts store? Some of the Auto Zone products on Potranco and Ellison are expensive and I found the same air filter at OReilleys for way less. Thanks!
