It's so windy here! The temp seems to be dropping too. It's almost like a fall day with all the leaves blowing out of the trees. No rain yet.

We got a passing storm in Helotes, big winds and some rain. I was feigning running on the treadmill, so I missed it...but things are definitely wet out there!

An interesting tidbit of weather news...

Quote:
Central Texas sees more rain this year

Yes, there's been more rain this year.

In fact, as of Wednesday, San Antonio has received more than twice the rainfall it did during the same period last year and 12.27 inches more than what the city normally averages, according to the National Weather Service.

This year, a little more than 35 inches of rain has fallen in San Antonio. Last year, nearly 15 inches of rain fell in the city from January through Sept. 16. (full article)
Cheers! M2

So, if I read the previous quote correctly, San Antonio still gets about 2 feet of rain a year. That's a lot! I've spent most of my life in places that get 10 inches or (a lot) less a year. I'm surprised it's not more lush here. Is the soil very poor?

I'm also in Helotes, and we get a decent rain storm. It blew the top off of my kids' playhouse on our back porch. To be fair, I think my husband did a pathetic job putting it back together after the move, but there were some decent gusts.

It looks like there is going to be another wave hitting us around noon or so, if my uneducated eyes can read a radar.

We have all this clay soil around here which makes it difficult for the ground to hold water. That's why there's so much flooding after a decent rain.

It also makes it difficult to grow things. I had some watermelons that were coming along nicely, but all this rain recently has overwatered them and caused my melons to split open.

When we moved to Belgium from here, we used to joke that the two locations got about the same amount of rain. It was just that there it rained about 300+ days out of the year, whereas here we get it all in about 30 days or less!

The ground here is also very rocky, so the rain either permeates it into the aquifer, or runs off of it to Brownsville; which is why these prolonged, gentle rains are so welcomed!

Cheers! M2

Well, I was planning on grilling some steaks but I may not be able to now haha but I am enjoying watching the birds on the feeder swaying back and forth in the wind and rain.

We did chicken yesterday, glad we made enough for leftovers.

It was still a nice day to be home with family.

Yes! A brief break in the rain allows me to meander out to the grilling area and start a fire.... only to walk out and receive further rain. LOL
