Hey, anybody here live in or familiar with South Corona....specifically areas around Horesethief Canyon?
I just have a couple questions about it....

How is the commute from that area in the morning and evening going up to Chino or out to Riverside? Can't be as bad as the 91 into Orange County.

I know Elsinore has some rougher low-income areas, as do most places really, but how far removed is that from South Corona? Are surrounding areas pretty safe?

Any thoughts on local schools? Our son will be a 3rd grader next year....but we'd be interested to hear about the local middle and high schools as well.

How far do you have to drive for grocery stores/restaurants/shopping/movie theatres, etc? Can you find most necessities there or are you constantly driving 30 minutes to get to anything?

Finally, how stable is the population in that particular area? Does it seem to be mostly transient renters or is it a place that people are putting down roots, with some neighborhood community feel. Not knocking renting by the way....just trying to get a feel for neighborhood stability.

Any feedback is appreciated.
Thanks so much!!

The traffic on NB 15 is negatively impacted by the snarl that results from the inadequate NB15 to WB91 flyover transition.

I've been caught in that backup for an hour and a half coming from Murrieta.

Last I looked there seriously(couple years ago) the schools were good and the neighborhood was good. You didn't have to worry about the Elsinore crowd. This is not up to date information, though. As far as the area itself, I liked it. Homes look better than some of the newer, cheaper homes put up in the area.

If I recall, the major shopping is just an exit or two south on the 15.

OK, well I appreciate the feedback on that. Just exploring options at this point. Originally we were looking to move back to Orange County, but job options seem to be more in the inland areas. Online at least....homes in that area of Corona look similar to what I was used to in Orange County...but wasn't sure what the area is like once you leave that neighborhood. I haven't been out there in years, at least.

Horsethief has been like the "entry-level" tract home community for Corona/unincorporated Corona for about the past 20 years. That is not a bad thing, it has been such simply because historically, it had been far removed from civilization.

I'd rather live in Chino than try and commute from Horsethief in the mornings. You'd be with all the OC commuters, and be with them up until at least Magnolia (or Cajalco if you wanted to try that) if commuting to Riverside.

I haven't been there in awhile, but from its inception til about ~ 5 years ago, I've always thought of it as a pretty stable/safe/good schools community.

It's a great area! I have family in Horsethief and it has good schools, clean, very safe, etc. Very stable population with families, no rough areas or problems anywhere near there.
The issues that are present in Lake Elsinore do not find their way to South Corona, its a very different "vibe".
The closest major shopping is just a few miles north of Horsethief around the Dos Lagos area (off the 15 @ Eagle Glen Pkwy/Cajalco Rd.) There are movies, shopping mall, tons of dining, etc.
The only negative is that the traffic may be bad in the mornings and especially the evenings.
For this reason, you may want to look into North Corona (91 @ McKinley) because it is very similar to South Corona/Horsethief and will be an easier commute to Chino or Riverside.

Too far south. Cajelco exit is as far south as I would go. There is a huge shopping center there with everything on both sides of the 15. This is due to all the housing devopement of high priced homes (by Corona standards) in the area. Horesthief has and always will be a lower priced area.
You should also look north off of Limonite, the city seems to be going that way although it becomes Norco and Mira Loma at that point.
Traffic on the 15 used to be nothing but in the past 10 years has gotten pretty bad.

Due to this, just getting on the 91 will take you at least 25 minutes. It's a nice area but its so damn far from everything. All you have within 5 miles is a small Vons shopping center. Also, be VERY careful with which part of the community you buy. I was seriously avoid the edges and the top due to the possibility of brush fires. Considering there is only one main exit with another emergency road which most people don't know...if there's a fire...yea.

Horsethief is a nice family community, but everyone is so right about the traffic. Definitely agree with the North Corona comment, try looking in that area.
