Really hate a long commute but I want to live in a educated, safe, active area. Any suggestions for neighborhoods in the upper $200,000 to low $300,000 that work for me?

Chino Hills, if you can find anything in your range.

You've talked with a realtor? Exactly how long of a commute could you tolerate? Would some places in Upland, Alta Loma or Rancho Cucamonga be within your budget? It may be on the low side, but no harm in looking. By "educated," do you mean educated populace (e.g., college-educated) or good educational system? Claremont would be good for the former, but maybe too pricey, depending on what you're looking for (the big thing we don't know). Would you accept a condo or townhouse, or just a single family dwelling?

Rancho Cucamonga is a bordering city - 10 min drive on average. Live north of Foothill. Zillow zip code 91739. Area near Victoria Gardens shopping center is pretty nice.

If you look at neighboring Upland, also stay north of Foothill Blvd. Chino Hills, Claremont and Norco are also okay.

I did the Chino Hills to south Ontario commute for 5 years. A 20-25 minute stress free drive each way. I doubt you'll find a decent sized house in Chino Hills for under $350k-400k. I'd probably be looking in Corona for $275-325k but stay north of the Dos Lagos golf course to keep the commute reasonable. Rancho Cucamonga, Phillips Ranch, Montclair and Claremont are other areas to consider.
