But Suffolk County is still a part of the NYC metro area. It's still part of the New York City sphere of influence. And there is continuous development from the City all the way to the tip of Long Island in Montauk, just as there's continuous development from Downtown L.A. to Redlands and Yucaipa (and some might say, to Indio).
I thought one of the previous posts likening the Inland Empire to Los Angeles as New Jersey is to New York to be a pretty fitting analogy.
