My husband just informed me that he has a potential job opportunity (a good one!) in San Diego. We live in NJ now...... We have kids and are well settled so my knee jerk reaction was not a good one. We have moved before and we know it's hard.

Still---San Diego is BEAUTIFUL.

So, what is it like to live in San Diego? For anyone who has moved there from the East Coast, what has your experience been like? What do families tend to do there beside the beach? Are the people friendly? Are there any towns that tend to have a lot of transplants? Should we consider it? We are well settled and the kids are in an excellent school district.

We don't know much about the area beyond the fact it's incredibly pretty but we do love the beach and our children do surf.....

Thanks in advance!!!

San Diego has everything that New Jersey has plus beautiful weather, beaches, and mountains. so I'm sure whatever you do in NJ will be available for you to do in San Diego

Born and raised in NJ. Living in San Diego now, after numerous moves around the country with my husband's company. You will find San Diego, the weather and all that it has to offer a HUGE improvement over NJ. There are many transplants, sprinkled throughout the communities. Be friendly and you'll find most people are open and friendly as well. Again, more so than NJ. Activities are endless...even if you never set a foot on the beaches. You and your kids will love it, no matter what the ages!

Gurrrrl, Once u move out to San Diego you'll be like "new jersey what? where? what is that?"

It has everything and more than Jersey could ever have. Beautiful beaches, weather, people, scenery, attitude, vibe, etc. It's like you'll think to yourself "why was I ever living in Jersey?"
U wont miss it.

So excited for you!

The ocean is warmer on the Atlantic Coast. I have fond memories of going to Atlantic City as a child (before it got run down) and then many years later became a Las Vegas East. The ocean is colder here. Good schools exist, such as Poway (which is inland) and San Dieguito District (which is coastal). The coast is more expensive than inland. It is lovely here but not green like it is back east. The moderate climate has a lot of appeal to many people, including me. We aren't close to New York City and all it has to offer but you can drive up to Los Angeles (though I wouldn't compare LA to New York). I am happy living here. It's not as green as Ohio, where I was born. It is a HUGE improvement over Arizona where I lived for several years.

SD is a no brained CanonGrace.
rx - you are giving my NJ a bad name with your over-the-top posts. It is not what you say but how you are immaturely communicating it.

San Diego is great - my brother and his family (including three children) moved here in June and are already loving the area! I've been here for a year now and have no desire to move anywhere else! The drivers here will remind you of NJ/Tri State - driving FAST and switching lanes like it's going out of style, so y'all will already be used to the road conditions!
