Moved here in July. Have a new dog. Need a vet. We recently went to one that came highly recommended, but the clinic/vet isn't sitting well with me. Looking for one that is non-judgmental in regards to not getting a rescue dog, and one that doesn't scoff at me when I express concerns about heartworm/flea medication. Yes, I've looked at YELP, but there are so many vets. Not looking for a vet in North County as that is a bit too far of a drive. Thanks!

We use these guys and love them.
San Diego Pet Hospital

Terrific staff and definitely non judgmental. They are animal people that deal with all kinds of pets or animals such as horses, alpacas, dogs cats etc.

When we lived downtown we used the Market St Vet. They too were very good.

We use these guys: Rose Canyon Animal Hospital - Veterinarian In San Diego, CA USA :: Home

Very good vets and staff. Reasonable prices. They get very high ratings on Yelp.

We go to Dr Pizzo at Lifetime Animal Center in Clairemont. She is super sweet and our dogs really like her. The staff are friendly and we don't feel they push a bunch of stuff on us for no reason. Our dog got hurt last week and we went to the 24hr clinic. Dr Pizzo called the next day to check on us when she got the report.

I can't say enough good things about Market Street Vet Clinic. They are amazing. They've been working with me to get Bagheera's diabetes in check, and the best thing is that they knew when to send me to a specialist instead of trying to fix it on their own because they just didn't know how to do it.

When I need someone to come and give Bagheera his insulin, I get one of their vet techs to come in and do it. I trust them enough to give them my keys and let them come into my house.

Where do you live? I thinks it is great when possible you can find a good vet close to come in case you need to run them over before work and get them home. We just started Cabrillo Animal Hosp on OB/pt Loma (very accessible to the 8) and so far have really liked them.

When we lived downtown (wish we had known Tony's vet) we went to Bodhi in North Park. I think they are competent, but for a number of other reasons, we're not thrilled without experiences there (namely long waits, and up selling of services)

I found Market Street through Yelp and I'm not the only person to say really nice things about them. That reminds me, it's almost time to get Jacey checked on. As active and playful as she is, I can't imagine that anything's wrong with her but they're just like humans. You have to check them out once a year.

So that's my Humane Society plug for the day. Make sure you get your pets checked at least once a year.

Bodhi was good until they moved into their new building. After that, their rates went up, and the quality of service went down. The owners have sold the hospital to someone else, and apparently their service is continuing to go downhill.

Before they started going downhill, one of my former neighbors and I split the bill for surgery on one of the stray cats here. She had a tumor on her hip that kept getting larger, so we had that done. She has since become a house cat, she moved in with me last week.

I would go to Market Street, because I've heard so many good things about them, but there's no parking there. I'll probably take the cats to Rancho Mesa Animal Hospital, which is a ways from me, but I have a referral for them.

There's no designated parking but you can pop into Park it on Market, which is three blocks away. Street parking is easily available and I've seen the staff give people quarters so they can park their car.

Seriously, I highly, highly, highly recommend them. Dr. Dorian is awesome. When I pop in to get supplies, he will talk to me about Bagheera and his diabetes.

Mission Valley Pet Clinic is staffed with very good, kind people, they'll take walk-ins, and they keep good records. And our dog likes their doctors. However, one concern which we've never quite gotten over: One of their doctors years ago misdiagnosed a beloved dog of ours who subsequently died; that can happen anywhere, of course, and her condition was not treatable, so it wouldn't have made any difference, but we learned that when in doubt, get a second opinion. Aside from that, and since it was a long time ago, I'll certainly recommend the clinic as it is now. And our dogs are rescues.

Tony, my folks used to have a cat called Bagheera! I assume your is a cat, too, and not a panther...
