A short drive to LA/SD?

Please enlighten me becuase from my experience anyone that associates Las Vegas with depression is probably an addicted gambler or drug abuser.

Stuck up snobs from California will call Las Vegas depressing, even though they visit there in droves on the weekends. Just consider the source.

LV doesn't depress me in the least.

I am not a big fan of Vegas weather, but plenty of places are worse. Think Minnesota & the Dakotas. Parts of Texas are almost as hot or hotter when humidity is factored in.

We might visit LV in droves, but we all complain about the heat there insistently. A friend from Vegas once asked me about complaining Californians, "Well, did they not think it was not going to be hot?"

Personally, not a fan of LV at all: casinos, buffets, climate, anti-culture, brothels, shark tarkanian, etc.
I spent <24 hours there in 1993 (with the Hangover guys) and that was too long and hope never to return.
I did like visiting Hoover Dam.

What is there to like, it's souless and depressing desert hellhole that trives on people's addictions, like gambling, sex, alcohol and etc.

Since most baby-boomers are broke or can't afford to gamble anymore Vegas Casinos came up with idea of sucking money out of our young adults via those overpriced Night Clubs where $35 dollar bottle sells for $2000. Those kids instead of saving money are blowing it in those stupid clubs.

One more thing, just before school starts they are short 900 teachers in Las Vegas. No one wants to teach in that city because no one values education there.

Everyone worships false God = Money and materialistic things in life.

That's why I some "some". Those you are pointing out are also extremes. But, those other places actually have things to do outside when the weather is permitting. I guess if one likes collecting rocks? To me LV is a place to party not really a place to retire or raise a family.

^^^ Funny you should say that.

One of the few people I know living happily in the Las Vegas is a geologist...

The only time he ever ventures into town is for the airport or when he has visitors.

On the other hand... I recently returned from abroad and met several people that had recently made their one and only trip to America and it was to Las Vegas... it was a group from an Alpine Village that flew to Vegas and spent time doing the strip scene and then rented motorcycles for a trip to the Grand Canyon and other nearby National Parks...

Austria has direct flights to Miami and Las Vegas... go figure?

I would live in MN or Dakotas in a heartbeat... Vegas is just too darn hot unless you're a lizard or a bug.

Why Dakotas?
(Also why MN but I can understand as most folks are above average there?)

Having been around the US including DC, NYC, Chicago and LA, I have never seen as many different varieties of foreign visitors as I've seen in Las Vegas. Just walking down the Strip, you can't even keep count of all the different languages you hear!
