Hi

From what I hear, one can live on 40k in Southern Cal if they are single with no kids and have no debts.... You should have no problem.

there is nowhere in the united states where a single person making 90k will have any problem whatsoever. seriously, what a ridiculous question.

it's true and that's what is so great about this country.

For rental housing, 3k a month will get you entry-level luxury accomodation in pretty much every major US city's better neighborhoods. 3k/mo would be a 700sf 1BR in Manhattan, a small house or lux 1BR or 2BR in LA or SF. larger house in the outer NYC boros, Orange County, etc.

In San Diego 3k/mo would get you a large suburban home, a luxury apartment. A 1BR apartment in an entry-level building might be as little as 1500. For-sale housing is really where the costs are, but if you are single and have no debt (and some cash) you could easily afford to buy something entry-level.

Thanks a lot to all who answered.
GratefulDeb, my job is in engineering.
I wanted to get some feedback from people living in the area rather than statitics and dry data. The apt I am planning to rent is $1800 and it's nothing fancy about it, it's just nice. Maybe I should have said that I am looking for a bit more just "barely make it"...It 's a big move for me and I feel a bit uneasy, but yet very excited.

Paying $1800 per month for a modest place is something I would never, ever do. Such a waste of money. But I suppose there aren't really any better deals to be had these days.
