Default Relocating to San Diego

My husband and I will be relocating to San Diego County in the next few years.

In December, we are planning a visit out to this area. Can anyone recommend towns within San Diego County?

I have heard some talk about Santee. Can anyone let me know a little about that town.

MUCH APPRECIATED!!!

Give us a little more information about what you are looking for - do you know what area you will be working in? Do you have kids? What type of area would you like to live in? Santee is a little further inland so it gets a little colder in the winter and a little hotter in the summer.

We will be moving from New York. I am a lawyer and my husband is a contractor. We do not have any children, but we would like children in the future.

We are looking for something close to the city of San Diego, where I am hoping to work. We want a nice place to raise children--decent school system, relatively low crime rate--you know, the typical.

How cold does it get in the winter?

San Diego isn't like the East Coast where all the jobs are downtown. I would say most people DON'T work downtown but scattered throughout the county. Also, there aren't a lot of "towns" here, people here think that is a quaint term. Mostly there are just communities, they have a San Diego address but may not be anywhere close to the city. In my opinion, to get what you are looking for you should look in North County San Diego. Scripps Ranch as well as the many communities within the Poway school district have low crime and good schools.

In the winter, it is not cold at all compared to NY, but there are several "micro climates" so depending on how far you are from the ocean the weather can vary. I live about 10 miles inland and it may get in the 50's at the coldest.

Just my own opinion but I'd recommend Poway if it's within your price range. Some of the greatest schools in the county, and a great place to raise a family.
