We just put in synthetic lawn and are so thrilled about it. Yes, it was mucho dinero, but our water bill is horrific. Of course, synthetic grass is not for a renter, but for a family who plans to stay in a home and wants to spend less money monthly, it is a good idea.

Do the dogs still poop on it? That is the biggest reason we are ripping ours out.

I bought an electric water cooler with a 5 gallon plastic jug on top, and it was a great investment. Now I just fill the jug for around $1 outside of Vons's, etc. and I have a month's worth of water. It's way cheaper than paying for bottled water in supermarkets, and it tastes just as good.

The dogs poop on it. We want them to, of course. We got the expensive type, and not the Costco type, which makes a difference.

You could always drink water from the tap. It's almost free . Lots of people do it.

I just use a Brita. There is even a tabletop Brita with a tap dispenser on it.

Give stuff away to others who need it and if you need something someone else is offering, get it for free on freecycle on yahoo groups. Go the the San Diego group. Thanks for sharing thrifty tips.

The Freecycle Network

Another tip to save money is to carry your lunch to work instead of eating out.

Walk and take the trolley/bus/Coaster/Sprinter instead of driving.

I would rather them go in the toilet. They are smart, but not that smart.
