Does anyone have a ballpark figure for the price per acre of vacant building land in Oceanside / Carlsbad these days?

I retired from my job a few years ago and I recently acquired various parcels of land in AZ and NV from an inheritance - one option that I'm considering is selling them and moving to the SoCal coast (I'm interested in self-build rather than buying a house) from New Jersey.

There's no single number. Prices range from 2-3 million / acre in Carlsbad west of I-5 to 100-200k / acre in deep inland Oceanside towards Bonsall. The further you are from the ocean, the cheaper it gets. Carlsbad comes at a premium compared to Oceanside because of better schools.

I concur- Oceanside and Carlsbad can't be lumped together. The city of Carlsbad is valued more for several reasons (better city government, better schools, closer to San Diego...) so real estate costs will be much higher. You're also more likely to find a lot with a tear-down on it than a buildable lot that is actually vacant. Proximity to ocean, parks, freeways etc is also going to affect your pricing a lot.
