I, for one, think this is awesome. Obesity is epidemic and parents are too lazy/cheap/stupid to cook healthful foods for their children. It's sad that it's come to this point, but something had to be done...

It should be outlawed in the South and Midwest. That's where the REAL problem is.

Banning Happy Meals is a good idea for the west coast. I think the rest of the country doesn't like to be told what to do quite as much as Californians.

So please answer the other posts about Oreo's, Whole Milk, White Bread, M&M's and the other crap marketed to kids ? What you gonna do about 80% of the stuff sold and marketed to kids ?

How about all that sweet cereal with goofy cartoon pics ?

As an adult do you think you should have any say in what you buy for your kids?

Ever buy Cracker Jacks just to get the prize inside ? It also should be banned.

Too bad adults can't make their own decisions in CA.

Well california does have the worst k-12 education system in the country. When you factor in that we have some of the highest drop out rates too, mixed in with the majority of the population not having a college education and it is a no brainer.

A society that can't think for it self, that is utterly dependent on welfare, over run with illegals and ghettos.

I think a lot of people are really really missing the points here.

First, this isn't a SF bashing thread, there are enough of those.

Second, what I get out of this law is that it sets a precedent. Ok fine, we restrict Happy Meals in SF. Good idea.

I know the alcohol comparison has been mentioned but lets look at it from another angle:

Hypothetically; What if San Diego decides to restrict the sale of beer? After all, excessive beer drinking can give one that all so attractive beer gut. The precedent would have already been set making such a law easier to pass. Granted, beer is targeted at adults and Happy Meals aren't but at that point, that fact would carry less weight. Both can be bad for you and cause you to gain weight when consumed in excess. Excess being the key word.

Whether it be beer or Happy meals, it's the responsibility of the adult that making the purchase to use wisdom and common sense. This isn't a liberal or a conservative thing. I'm a liberal but I also don't believe in restricting anyone from making choices for them or their families. That's their responsibility, not any governments.

Don't get me wrong, I like SF but I cannot understand or support the city on this.
