I currently live in southern California and my job may have me working in 2 different locations: Hayward and Lafayette. One day in each- not split. Is San Ramon a doable commute to each city or is there another city that is more in the middle? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Yes SR should work if you want an suburban area, or Alamo or Danville. If you want more urban and cooler weather then think about the nice parts of Oakland, or Alameda.

thanks! What is traffic like tho? Is it stop and go or not? I read the Oakland commute to Lafayette is rough with the tunnel, etc?

I'd look at Castro Valley. It's next to Hayward, and the commute through the tunnel to Lafayette would be against most of the traffic. Even San Leandro.
From San Ramon you can use Crow Canyon to Hayward but 680 to Lafayette will be full of people going to Oakland and SF, though you'll get off before the worst of it.

Thanks! I take it Castro Valley is a decent place to live. Low crime rate, etc.

San Ramon would work. San Leandro also is halfway. Castro Valley is pretty safe. Most crime is grafitti, DUI, etc.

Thanks! I called several local hotels ( San Ramon) who quoted a good 45 minute commute to either city. What do you think?

Most of the Hayward commute is IN Hayward. It's a mess. San Ramon/Danville is best.
