To say that L.A is a parking lot and the S.F rush commute isn't bad, and is free flowing all the time during off-peak, is a myth. More like a lie when it's repeated in the face of facts like the above.
Fact: the density of a metro area says absolutely nothing about the population size or tax to motorways in any way. Just like in the OP, you are citing statistics that don't directly support your thesis.

Futhermore, no one is saying SF's rush commute isn't bad. I certainly am happy I own a hybrid and don't use gasoline while in traffic, but to say that it's worse than the sprawling car-necessary region of Los Angeles/Orange County with its population that is nearly DOUBLE (13m to 7m) means you should have had your real estate mod cutlicense revoked a long time ago.

mod cut I'll clue you in that your citation of a greater population density in the Bay Area lends itself to the notion that more residents than average have the opportunity to commute to work via public transportation and not in vehicular traffic.

BART and MUNI may suck at times, but people use it. Get a clue.

I'd point out here that MOST people in Orange County (Fullerton,Irvine etc.) don't commute to Los Angeles. I'd say those are few and far between. Most commute inside OC

Of course our public transit is low compared to the Bay Area. We don't have rapid transit that is even remotely useful for most people

The traffic in LA is way worse overall than the Bay Area, and about as bad as DC (I grew up in the DC/NOVA area). The freeways are always clogged, and the surface streets can be just as jammed, regardless of what time of day it may be. Believe whatever you want though- NOBODY in this thread seems to agree with you or believe anything you say.
I'd have to agree. As someone who resides in Orange County it's always funny to gauge people who visit from out of town. Oh traffic at 10pm? That's normal here...

Of course not. That wasn't the point.

Fact: Bay Area workers are four times more likely than the average American worker to be a mega-commuter, a sobering fact that officials say isn't likely to change anytime soon.

Actually closer to 5%, last time I checked, Santa Clara County is in the Bay Area. Also I would count Salinas as well from that list since all of that traffic goes to the South Bay.

It's also rising. I could see 10% by 2020.

Doc... Montclair just posted some interesting info down in CA general. Seems the White House now counts Stockton as within the SF metro as over 15% of people there commute to the Bay Area.

Thought I'd give ya a heads up, as Stockton's status as Bay Area seems kinda questionable now...
