Pretty much this. My entire mom's side of the family grew up in the Mission District and back in the day it wasn't the worst part of town, but it wasn't a picnic either.

Vallejo needs pioneers like the OP to go in and make it decent again! ...It's tragic that any place in the Bay Area (which is universally beautiful, in my opinion) should have to succumb to crime because its inhabitants don't appreciate what it offers and/or its potential.

You can see how easy it is for people to bash any city by cherry-picking a neighborhood, and pretending it's representative of the entire city. Such a transparent ploy.

Have you actually spent any time in Vallejo yourself? Because you did the exact same thing by bashing Venice by claiming to have seen "youtube videos" yet never actually having set foot into the city.

Fine, so let's write off the OP as delusional, and move on, then.

No, we don't have to do that, but as someone who actually knows the former Mayor of Vallejo (I know Osby Davis, have had dinner in his home, and know his children), and I've done business with the City of Vallejo, there are more areas than the Crest that are a little rough. Vallejo has the second highest violent crime rate in California for cities over 100,000 (behind Oakland). So the reputation doesn't come from nowhere.

The broader point I was making though is that you should probably comment on things you know about, or have some experience with before you add your 2 cents. Just a little friendly advice.

I don't need to dine with the city mayor to know that video doesn't represent all of Vallejo, and is misleading and potentially inflammatory to the point that it could be considered borderline trolling. Over half the population of Vallejo is white or Asian, for one thing. Let's just leave it at that, shall we?
