Savannah is #7 when it comes to art lovers...
Quote:
While most still see New York City or Los Angeles as the meccas of American art appreciation, a new study found that there is as much love for creativity and expression in the Lowcountry as there are on the East or West coast.

Apartmentguide cracked the data on what 10 cities in the U.S. were the best for art lovers with Savannah making the cut at number seven. Charleston led the list followed by Miami, Fla.; Berkeley, Calif.; Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and New Orleans, La.

The website found that Savannah has one art-related business for every 2,525 person (in comparison to Charleston, which has one for every 1,775 person), 23 museums and two art organizations. While it listed zero in the study, there are a number of local art material and supply stores that the study clearly missed out on.

I am interested in visiting this Spring. Before it gets too hot. Any haunted places?

Savannah is one of the most haunted cities in the country. Plenty of ghost tours. It was 81 today, already getting hot. Although April is normally nice weather.

Travel+Leisure Magazine has named the Perry Lane Hotel as one of the best hotels in the world...
Quote:
The Perry Lane opened in June of 2018 at 256 East Perry St. The hotel has 167 guest rooms, over 8,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor event space, and two bars and a restaurant, The Emporium Kitchen & Wine Market. The Market features a locally-sourced menu with a wine shop, gourmet sandwiches, artisanal cheeses and charcuterie.

The hotel, which is part of the Starwood Luxury Collection, is managed by Sage Hospitality and was developed by New York-based Flank, who also developed the Drayton Tower building just south of the hotel.

Each year, Travel + Leisure editors check in to hundreds of new hotels around the globe in search of the properties that offer a winning alchemy of setting, design, and service. The editors then collaborate with Travel + Leisure’s global network of travel writers, contributors, and agents to narrow down the list.

Had to create an account to respond to this. Wife and I traveled to Savannah in May a few years back. We live in Manitoba. Beautiful small city for sure, but I was struck by how you can walk down one block and everything is modern and updated, and the next block has boarded up houses/buildings and everything is run down.

I found the people pretty laid back. Tried to chat with as many folks as I could. The old architecture is really something to see.

I almost had the wife convinced to move there. Then we flew back home, and that was the end of that plan.

If you are able to get Netflix, don’t miss Season 6, episode 1, of Chef’s Table, about Mashama Bailey, the head chef at The Grey.

It’s a lovely story of her return to Savannah, where she lived until the family moved to NY, and her quest to elevate southern food and honor the cooks who came before. There are nice views of Savannah, too.
