Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. Science is incapable of disproving; although if it can prove an alternate process is responsible for causation, it is reasonable to assume the former hypothesis has been disproved.

Yes, I think many flat earthers are doing it in the spirit of Pastafarianism or the Church of the Subgenius. 5% serious intent, usually about dogma, and 95% screwing with the straights.
I just don't don't understand it. What harm is it being done to the rest of us by the people who believe that the earth is flat ?
There's harm to society and the world at large not by just this one stupid theory, but the war on facts and truth in general. There are people who don't believe Sandy Hook happened, and some of the parents have had to move multiple times due to harrassment from these moronic people. There are people who believe the Holocaust never happened. If these people can convince other people the tapes are faked, everything is faked, then how does anyone know what to believe? What happens when the next thing happens and half the country believes it's fake?

The word “believe” implies an opinion. The things we are discussing in this thread are not opinion. It’s not an opinion that the earth is round. They are indisputable fact. If people don’t believe concrete facts I wouldn’t say they’re stupid but certainly they are ignorant.

That those who are 'smart' can simply dismiss those who are 'stupid' as not being worth bothering about was the point.
But to your comment, some people are simply ignorant. Someone who has spent considerable time building a belief in nonsense may technically be ignorant, but they got there through willful stupidity.
