If I install a pole in the ground, and make sure it's plumb, then find the time of the day when the transiting Sun is passing over the local Midheaven, will the shadow of the pole be pointing True North at that time of the day ???

Actually IT IS ASTROLOGY ... establishing a true north-south line is a component of local space astrology. I made a similar post on astrologer David Cochrane's ( David is the programmer of the Kepler Astrology software ) facebook page. This is his response:
Yes, but in southern latitudes it is more likely to be pointing to True South. This shadow is on the Meridian Plane and astrologically/astronomically it is the time when the right ascension of the Sun is identical to the right ascension of the MC (RAMC).
I then stated:
I'll be using this north-south line to establish the local space lines in my home and the town where I am living
David responded:
your logic is indeed perfect. BTW, the Local Space Chart is handy for this; here is a video I made 9 years ago about how I do this, and I still do it this way:
Apparently you're not familiar with local space astrology. It can be quite useful. I think it's worth checking into. Message me if you are interested in David's video. I'll send you the link.

So again, explain why you can't get a compass, look up the declination for your area, and be done with it?
Unless you have some kind of different definition of "north" than the rest of us, in which case never mind.
There are charts that indicate at your location when the sun "souths." I think it's called "local noon." On DST local noon at my house is 1:40 PM - about 12:45 or so on standard time. It varies over the year.
