Apparently.

What I didn't mention is how I needed to find a second job ASAP because we weren't making ends meet. I found that second job 3 months later, and it eventually enabled me to quit the first job. :smiley face with a straight face:

And things have been varying degrees of hunky dory ever since. We've even had the pleasure of relocating back and forth from WA since then (job related).

6K won't last long, and your degree is not exactly marketable. No one here seems to care about any university except UW, strangely enough. Perhaps consider working at Starbucks until you find something else, for they do offer health insurance. Luckily you have youth on your side.

Man if I had 6k I would not move to Seattle. Go travel or volunteer abroad or something. You'll get much more life experience and have more fun doing that than trying to make it in Seattle. Go paint buildings in Europe or something history-related. Check out http://www.volunteerabroad.com or http://www.contiki.com for some cheap abroad ideas.

for jobs, check out Group Health. They have lots of different types of jobs, not just medical, and are really into hiring young people right now. Plus, great benefits, bus pass, and I know they have hired at least 3 out of state folk.

I know a lot of people who won the DV Lottery and moved (even to Seattle... actually a lot of them move to Seattle) in the US with 3000$ or sometimes even 1000$ and I never heard of one who didn't made it. I don't know why an American who knows how things work there can't...

$6,000 should do you for about a one month vacation in Seattle, -if you really skimp. You will have to include the cost of coming and going unless you plan on hitch-hiking.

Amen to that. My girlfriend and I are jumping in line and joining the crowd to make a similar jump at the end of August. From Louisiana here, born and raised here. This part of the world isn't for us.

Same here. It's worth the risk. Especially if you are sensible about it. I plan to move there for 6 months and then decide what to do if I haven't settled in by then. I'll have only used half of my savings at that point, so no major risk, just cost... Chances are it'll work out, but you won't know if you don't try!
