Well,

My lease has expired and I am currently doing month by month. I have decided that I hate Mercer Island. I grew up in a poor family and even though now I don't struggle with money and can afford nice things, I just can't stand living with these people who have no sense of reality or care for others. I hate them and I hate it here.

Also, the annoying high school kids here that hang out at the lame QFC, get a life.

But anyway, just too snobby and if I stay here any longer Im going to knock some people out. So to keep from going to jail, I am looking to move (in June) to either the Bellevue, Kirkland, or Seattle areas

For Seattle, I want to move near the Seattle center to an apartment on 1st and John Ave. Is this area relatively safe?

For Bellevue or Kirkland, I want to live in the downtown areas. What do you all think?

1st & John is OK during the day. Traffic can be a pain if you need to commute anywhere other than DT Seattle. It can get rather lively at night, and while it's not actually sketchy - there are plenty of questionable characters hanging around because it's a big spot for tourists (which means bathrooms, etc). You'll get a ton of noise and traffic from all the events at Seattle Center and Key Arena. The first few will be kind fun and novel, but after that you may start to get really tired of always having something going on right at the moment you want to just be at home and chill. Otherwise - it's pretty convenient and you have tons of stuff within easy walking distance.

I would think that if you find MI too snobby, that you'd have the same problem with DT Bellevue. However I like the part of it along Main and west of Bellevue Way ('Old Bellevue'). I rather like DT Kirkland, but I'd personally rather live closer to the library than the waterfront. It's easier to get in and out of, and closer to things like the grocery store and freeway, but easy walking distance to the livelier parts.

Best wishes with finding something new!

RE: Seattle Center

Yeah, I figured that be the issue. Maybe I can find a place in Queen Anne or Ballard/Green Lake.

RE: Bellevue Downtown

I work in downtown Bellevue I have never had an issue of any kind walking around, eating, etc. So, idk, I think it is significantly different from MI...but maybe Im crazy.

Well - I've never spent much time in MI, so my basis for comparison is limited, but I hear people talk about how snobby Bellevue is all the time. I've lived in several different parts (Crossroads and north of DT) and people always seemed pretty regular to me. Certainly I'll note that HS kids in Bellevue seem to have other things to do than hang out in QFC.

It's not much different than Mercer Island in either downtown Bellevue or Kirkland, you would have to get farther out into the areas like Crossroads in Bellevue or Kingsgate in Kirkland. Also, it happens that I went to Kirkland for dinner last night and from 520/108th to downtown on Lake Washington Blvd/Lake Street it took over 35 minutes, total gridlock for no apparent reason at 5:30-6pm. I'd hate to think how bad it will be in the summer. The HS kids in Bellevue don't hang out at QFC because they have Bellevue Square and Crossroads Mall. Nothing like that on MI.

Any reason you picked Seattle? I've found people to be much friendlier north of Seattle, around Lynnwood, Edmonds.

Bellevue HS kids have the 7-Eleven on Main. =)

Anyway, yeah, people talk all the time about how snobby Bellevue is, but you know who usually talks about that? The Seattle snobs who haven't been on the east side of the lake in 10 years. Downtown Bellevue has grown a lot in 10 years and it no longer resembles or behaves like the suburb it once was. It has more going on now, it's a major business and entertainment center, and it's more racially diverse than Seattle!

If you work in Bellevue, I think you're nuts to live in Seattle. Particularly lower Queen Anne. It's a mess to get to I-5 and then to either of the bridges. Getting back to Seattle at the end of the day is worse. I work in LQA and see the bad traffic every day. Unless you take the bus, in which case you might be fine. Bellevue has great bus service (LQA does not, however).

I think the problem is you. You will probably have problems wherever you go. Mercer Island is supposed to be one of this best areas to live. You are going to have simular problems in Belleve and Kirkland. 1st and John may be different, there more adults and less teenagers living there.

Mercer Island is very different from Bellevue and Kirkland, IMO.

Since I don't live in any of those places, I can only guess. Mercer Island has a large Jewish population and business owners. Bellevue and Kirkland have a lot of people working in the technology field, such as Mircosoft and there are a lot of asian and indians that Microsoft seems to hire? All my oriental relations live in the Bellevue/Woodenvile area and whenever we go out to dinner, the resturant is always in Bellevue. (Oriental resturants, that is.)
