Brown bag is offensive? I guess I live a sheltered life. I have never heard that before. So what happens if someone does say brown bag? Will they be sent to sensitivity training?

This is what the "offensive" interpretation is referencing:

Paper bag party - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The subject of whether "brown bag" is offensive seems incomplete when disambiguated from the historical context; heaven knows, paper bags were not the only tools of oppression from this specific context (combs were also notorious). What could have been a lively discussion about language evolving from historical situations has now turned into a farce. It feels like an opportunity has been lost.

As for passing in the historical view (with Seattle playing a role), Carol Channing's story proves more instructive:

I think we all think the bags was a nice idea. But, not pointing any fingers, they coulda been done better. So, how about no bags this time but next time we do the bags right and then we go full regalia?

The part of this that gets under my skin the most is that no one complained. This was one politico being pre-emptively offended and deciding to fix a problem that no one has objected to. Which is a typical move among activist politicians. They rush to find offense where none exists.

BTW KOMO really should be embarrassed at that story. I can't get over the number of errors in that short article.

By using the term "person" you are excluding other animals who deserve just as much respect as homo sapiens. Pencarbonbasedlifeformship" is more inclusive. You're such a hater.

Yet another example of why I will not live in the city of Seattle. The people who run the city are IDIOTS. Pair this story with one that ran on Kiro 7 tonight about a family whose two younger kids are being forced to go to a different elementary school than their older kid because the school district lost paperwork the parents filed. Even after blaming the family, then recognizing it was the district's error, the district will not budge. And I really hope McGinn isn't reelected, because he has done a ton of damage to transportation in the city, especially SLU/QA.

Nope. And it's probably worth pointing out that this only applies to tax payers. The homeless are still allowed to offend however they like.
