Hey! I'm moving to Seattle within the next two months. I'm a single 27 yo female with a black lab and a cat. My office is right downtown, but I'll only be making about 45k. Where is a cheapish neighborhood so I can narrow my search? Ideally don't want to commute any longer than a half hour and would prefer not to drive. I'm from the north east, so a little bit of grime and sketch doesn't bother me too much. I'd like to live alone, but it looks like I need to consider roommates. Any suggestions?

Your 30 minute commute needs will place you in Seattle somewhere (it can take 30 minutes to drive from one place to another in Seattle, a 30 minute bus ride really narrows your options) .. might suggest the Central District or Georgetown as lower cost options.

Beacon Hill, Columbia City, and Othello areas of Seattle are affordable and well within that commute time by light rail.

For rlsalem, Seattle to Anacortes by car with light traffic is 90 minutes at best. With the airport hour time requirement, that puts you at the north end of Seattle, to about Burien. Anything north or east of Seattle, or south of the airport will put you out of the range of one destination or the other.

Hemlock makes a great suggestion to live along the light rail line (I would probably not look in Rainier Beach).

Georgetown, possibly Queen Anne. Not sure how you'll find a landlord willing to accommodate those pets.

Just a heads up that it may be a bit tough to find a landlord in Seattle proper willing to allow a black lab in an apartment, especially if you're looking at something smaller/affordable. If you're looking to avoid driving and keep your commute short too, you will need to stay fairly close to downtown.

That being said, I'd look into Lower Queen Anne, Central District, Georgetown, or perhaps somewhere on Beacon Hill near the lightrail (I'd avoid Rainier Beach though). Parts of West Seattle might work if you decide that driving is ok.
