So far, my husband and I love Washington - I grew up in the Hyde Park neighborhood in Chicago and I lived in Glendale, CA for a decade. Having been raised in Chicago, this winter was rough but not brutal, but I understand it was not a typical winter here. I was sick of of the roasting hot summers in California and I prefer the milder Washington summers.

I have not experienced the "Seattle freeze," but most of the people I have met are transplants like me and my husband. All of the protests are a little off-putting but not of major concern to me, just ignore and live your life. At least you can obtain a gun for your own protection here, unlike California, the job market is good, and there is no state income tax. Everything is clean and green and I feel safe walking around my neighborhood (Edmonds).

True, it is expensive to live here but so was California. I am not trying to bash my former state (because I enjoyed living in Glendale too), but this has been a good change for us. I miss our daughter who still lives in California (graduate student), but she and her fiance are considering moving here in the future. Give or take a couple of thousand, I make a comparable salary and I am used to crazy drivers and heavy traffic (but I park and ride a commuter train).

I love the fresh seafood here (I miss good Mexican food (California) and good pizza (Chicago). I've yet to find a decent pizza here but I can always visit Chicago or New York for a "foodie" weekend.

Fogon Cocina Mexicana is actually one of the better inner-city Seattle Mexican joints.. They also have a great happy hour. The food is quite authentic tasting, but the place is always very packed and busy since it is in the heart of Capitol Hill.

Don't forget Valermo's.. They have all types of special deals and they make the best damn calzone I have ever had in this city.. They are famous for the football size Calzones and they pack em' heavy. Try them with meatballs and ricotta cheese

Not sure if I mentioned in above in this thread but since za being discussed, the Pizza place in Langley is very good with a nice water/island eastern view.
