I miss the weather and vibe in SoCal, tremendously. However, I can never afford to go back there.

Full disclosure: I live in Kitsap, not Seattle, and home prices are significantly lower.

Being Born here and raised the first 13 years of my life in the Renton/Kent area of King County. My family and I moved to Los Angeles in 1968 and the Sun and weather. Graduated High school In Burbank. I Joined the US Navy and never returned. I got lucky and got stationed in Everett Washington for two years and discovered I did not have issues with the weather and actually enjoyed the rain, and the gray days of winter set in. I like the coolness of the weather. Must have been the first part of my life when raised in Washington it set the tone. In my likes and dislikes regarding the weather and rain/snow in Washington.

Try to get a southbound rental truck SEA > SoCA in Feb or March!

Premium price, minimal availability!

OTOH... my SoCA spouse has No Problem with PNW winters... (Not outdoors 16 hrs / day by necessity)

This prairie kid has never adjusted to the enjoyment of farming in the MUD (only 36 yrs so far, have not given up yet, but I purpose to be GONE a lot! (At least 200 days . yr AWAY from PNW))

stuff GROWS, as does mold and mildew!

Hint...

get some indoor hobbies (like a TV)
embrace that you need to do EVERYTHING in the mud / drizzle... Play ball, watch kids games, mow, work on car, paint house, repair roof (often)... treat moss... slip in slimy slugs, photography, hike, swim, picnic, camp, bike, wash car, garden.... just do it and get soggy.

PNW weather seems very simple to this future northwesterner:

If it's not good hiking weather today, then it's good reading weather.

I think you do have it figured out, we do like our books! People also aren't sissies about hiking. Many of us have foul weather gear and it's important to remember that a light drizzle is far different than a thunderstorm. Walking on a quiet morning through mossy woods with a light rain can be beautiful.

I made the move from Socal to the Seattle area, had to move back to Socal for family reasons and hated the fact that I had to return here. I love and miss Washington.
