Considering moving to Seattle area. Problem is, here in NC I can have a nice large home in an upper middle class neighborhood for $350,000. I know housing is much more there. I have 2 kids and we are active so we enjoy safe neighborhoods with lots of kids, things to do, and walk-ability to shops. Are there any neighborhoods like this near Seattle or around that I could find even close to $350k? If not how far out from Seattle would I have to go to get such?

I will be traveling there in about a month so I’d like to drive around and take a look at some areas.

JB

Get a realestate agent.
You need to be aware that the pay range may be better in WA-Sesttle, and that there is no income tax.

Nope. Small 2 bedroom in Historic North Everett for that price.

Perhaps Auburn? You may be able to find something there but it may not fit your description of upper middle class. PS area is spendy!!

The same applies to Kent, Puyallup, and to the north, Marysville and all will have some safe family neighborhoods, if you are selective. Upper middle class areas are going to start at $600k.

Add about $1m to the 350k to get that in Seattle area, and that’s not an exaggeration

I figured I wouldn't get even close to the sq ft and spacious neighborhood houses as we have here.

I grew up in cities and am not opposed to condos if in a nice neighborhood, once again hoping family friendly.

What about near areas...nearby cities? I work mostly remote so commute isn't as big of a deal as it is for some.

A just a little closer in for a condo or townhome, and somewhat more family friendly places. Try Maple Valley, Covington, Monroe, Snohomish and possibly a few in Lynwood.

Why WA? Why Seattle(ish)? If you work mostly remote there are SO MANY lovely cities with nearby recreation that don't have this cost of living. Even for those of us that love it here, there is such a premium for living here that it can be very hard/daunting to make the math work. Truly curious.

As long as law enforcement is suppressed and the community is excessively tolerant of crime
There is no such thing as a safe neighborhood
