Gallon of Milk - Cost Today (cheapest, price, expensive, savings)

In another thread stormweary mentioned that the price of a gallon of milk in her area is up to 3.99/gallon. So I checked in the co-op here in Maine. It may be less in a traditional supermarket, but it was 3.99 for regular milk, and 5.99 for organic.

Of course I am so old, I remember when a quart was .27cents and we baulked like mad, ran out to get farm containers and picketed in the streets (must have been the 60s).

Increases in what we eat and drink are inevitably a result of the pass-on for more expensive petrol, but.......but.....how much more?

So how much is milk these days in your neck of the woods?

Right now Kroger up here-Toledo area is 6/$8 for half gallons, and i just came across a newspaper from April 27 when gas was all the way up to $2.99!! Now-well, yesterday, it was $3.39. Yep, those were the good old days!?!

Wyoming the milk yesterday was $2.50 a gallon.

Now, let me tell you my age. I remember putting regular in for $ .16 per gallon and Ethol was $ .17 a gallon.

Today I was paying that much attention but I think I saw a sign for $3.15 for 87 at one gas station. It has been around 2.99 to 3.19 all around this area (MA & ME).

Just before I got my DL for the first time, gas was $.25 cents a gallon. It almost doubled overnight to $.45 cents. Thought (at the time) that we would NEVER see $1.00 a gallon.

When my husband and I got married, we ended up living in Fullerton, CA for awhile. He almost dropped his jaw at the price of milk then. That was 10 years ago and he saw milk at 3.99 a gallon back then.

Now, in the Toledo metro area, up until I left 3 weeks ago, you could catch 1/2 gallon milk at $1.00 a 1/2 gallon. But you had to have a shopper's card to take advantage of the savings.

Don't know the price of milk here yet cause I am buying so little of it...it will spoil. And buying quarts or even pints turns out cheaper if you don't use it all. Liz

Thanks, Liz (aka southernlady5464) -- yes petrol was dirt cheap or totally affordable even back in the 90s. I took a cross country then, and while I can't remember the gallon price, I did 14,500 miles and spent about $400. total. Now I have been spending between $25-40 per day (and about 200-400 miles).

And I agree about buying smaller quantities of milk. Often even a quart would go bad in NM.

My mother remembers when gas was $.10 a gallon, she's 88

I remember gas being .25 a gallon in 1950's in the mid west ... got married in 93 in Fl gas was .99 in Clearwater and now it's 3.15 in Ft. Lauderdale. I think we're being held to the fire on gas prices and it ain't near over yet. Milk is 2.25 for a half gallon at Publix in Ft. Lauderdale... who got this started? UGH.
