Trail mix. Although I suppose we could just make it ourselves...hmmm.
We are thinking of dropping our membership. I almost always find better deals at a regular grocery store. I dont care about brand name organic stuff at Costco when I can get generic food for less money elsewhere. We dont have a dog so no need for dog food; our cat has a tummy problem so she needs special food from the vet....I really try to avoid impulse purchases at Costco or any place else...
American cheese (for sandwiches, burgers, etc.), Mexican cheese (for tacos, nachos, burritos, etc.), VitaRain Zero (Kirkland's Vitamin Water), hot dogs, butter, various chicken products (patties, nuggets, etc.), garbage bags, plates (if cheaper than Sam's Club) and that is about it on normal purchases.
I always really load up on my last haul before it expires, so I don't have to pay to renew every 12 months exactly.
This year I waited 3 months after it expired till I went back to renew, and never received any promotion in that time frame.
Great strategy! I think I may try that when we're up for renewal. The trick is to keep track of the expiration date because they don't seem to warn you in writing, just wait until you're checking out with $250 worth of groceries and then say "Your membership has expired--we'll just add the renewal fee to the total."
I don't have a COSTCO, but I have a SAM's CLUB. I don't buy large quantities because of storage considerations, but I always buy certain things.....coffee beans, muesli, cage free eggs, and some kids of meat, like ground beef and lamb roasts. I also buy bags of dry pack frozen scallops.
I have no idea what a Costco is. Not one anyplace close to me.
Jim,it is Sam's top competitor. Some sware they are superior to Sam's. We belonged to both when we lived in Texas, dropped Costco when we moved to NM. We didn't have the need for both and had belonged to Sam's longer. I really see very little differnce. I do think Costco stores are a little less cluttered and appear to be a little nicer, but price wise and quality wise they are the same.
I use Costco because I like them the most, and they pay a living wage to their employees.
You can go there year after year and see the same employees working there because they treat them well and pay them a livable wage. Total opposite of places like Wal Mart that have a revolving door of new, seemingly untrained employees each day.

My Costco stopped carrying frozen scallops, another food item that I really miss!
