Walmart owns property at the northwest quadrant of Highway 15 South and Cockerill Road for a future Walmart Supercenter hypermarket.

They scrapped those plans years ago. The property is up for sale. Now, with the new Neighborhood Markets going up everywhere, there is less of a need for multiple super centers in one medium sized city.

Walmart is not opening many Walmart Neighborhood Market supermarkets either. Walmart Neighborhood Market stores are opening at a slower pace.

Southern Sumter County could be in position to experience a development boom.

I know, I'm sure it would be much appreciated on that end. I work on that end of town, and when you do shift work, you don't have much choices after 9:00 pm. You do have McDonald's open 24 hours, but that gets old soon. Almost any new place to eat will do well out there, a Waffle House would do really well out there.

I saw an article in The Item about a Doctor that is opening a Café in downtown Sumter. I don't have a subscription to The Item.. but I am curious on the details of the article, location of the café, and timeline for opening......
