Plan on relocating to the Rapid City area later this year. I have a retail management background and hopefully can get on board at one of the many retail stores opening up in and around Rushmore Crossing. Trying to guage how far along they are in construction so I can plan a trip up there to start my job hunting. My wife already has a possible job lined up and starts in February '09. Will be coming from Mississippi.
Hey dovaman! Rushmore Crossing is slated to open "Phase 1" this October. Target, Scheels, Linens N' Things, Furniture Row, Shoe Carnival and TJ Maxx are supposed to be the first stores to open. Other phases will follow with restaurants and boutiques opening later this year. Cabela's is nearly complete just down the Interstate and two hotels (Hilton, Clubhouse) are supposed to start breaking ground this August too.
So are you moving out here because of the "lure" of the Black Hills?
I know I'm probably talking to a bunch of progressive thinkers...but I've got some commercial land in many new housing developments that we are considering developing. In this type of area...Im thinking mom and pop stores...farmers markets, hair salons, Doctor/Attorney offices...and offices...
Anyone have an opinion?
Thanks.
I heard the new Target from management will not have produce or meats...so not a "Super Target"...bummer.
I don't know...that's why I asked what the opinion was out there. I've got the only commercial area within about a 2 mile radius in alot of housing developments. Might be good for my community to have a place to have an office or other convenience close to home.

I don't understand. Do you mean that you want to develop some light commercial businesses in developed neighborhoods near Rushmore Crossing? I didn't think there were any housing developments out there yet. Overall, I think light commercial development in neighborhoods is a good idea as long as it doesn't go too far. In my neighborhood there are several nursing/assisted living centers and a bunch of doctors offices. I like having them nearby and they don't cause too much traffic. Now if you want to build a supermarket, office park, strip mall, or a Sonic in a residential neighborhood you may run into trouble.
