Tiger Woods has reported career earnings of $1.3 billion - latimes.com

That's a lot of dough.

There's a link in that article to a Gold Digest piece about IMG's 90/10 rule (90% of earnings off the course) that was used for Arnold Palmer.

What's eye opening is that Palmer and Jack Nicklaus is 3rd and 4th on the Annual GD 50. They earned 40 million and 26 million respectively last year

It didn't come easy but congrats to Patrick Reed for overcoming his own nerves to win his 2nd PGA Tour title yesterday! He joins Rory Mcllroy and Harris English as the only players under 25 to have multiple PGA Tour titles.

Here's a fun fact after this tournament: In his past 3 events Zach Johnson has faced I believe 330 competitors and he's finished better than 319 of them! (1st, 8th, 3rd yesterday)... heck of a start to the season!

Up next we finally get an event where many of the "big boys" will be playing and the season will really start gearing up.... Farmers Insurance Open highlighted by a field of defending champ Tiger Woods, along with Phil Mickelson, Lee Westwood, Bubba Watson, Hunter Mahan, Rickie Fowler amungst many!

Not enough threads for a golf sub-forum, though I'd like to see one. The site owner likes to have about 150 threads (not posts) before creating a sub-forum, and then there's the issue of who will moderate it.

Meanwhile, a story in our local paper made we wonder what's going on with golf. It seems to be on the decline and courses are closing.

Story is about the golf course in the King's Deer community here in the Colorado Springs / Monument area.

Excerpt: It's been a rough winter for area golf courses. Gleneagle Golf Club closed Nov. 1 ... Monument Hill Country Club closed its course between March and June ... Golf courses have been on the decline ... The numbers peaked in 2005 at more than 16,000 courses and 30 million golfers, but has declined by about 400 courses and 4.3 million golfers since ... rounds of golf played annually dropped to 463 million in 2011 from 518 million in 2000 ....

What is going on: The recession? Aging golfers? Too expensive? Other?

we've got a whole new group of kids/young adults who don't leave the internet/smart phone/video game world long enough to get a round of golf in. Eventually all of us oldsters will be too feeble to play and aimlessly milling around the starter shack and out on the course looking for someone, anyone to yell at for playing too slow.
