Hi everyone,
For tuition purposes for my wife I need to live in illinois for a couple of years, but I will be working in Creve Coeur. I have been looking at Edwardsville and Glen Carbon but I was recently made aware of how horrible the traffic is while crossing the Mississippi. Do you have any recommendations as to where I could live to minimize traffic? How early would I have to be on the road to still make it to Creve Coeur within an hour?

I am willing to live anywhere decent as long as it is on the Illinois side. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your help in advance!

Any advice on living in Alton? Would the commute from Alton to Creve Coeur be better than from Edwardsville?

Hi. I think the big issue here is that 270 is a very busy highway - perhaps the busiest. It is going to be a difficult commute. Perhaps you can arrange flexible hours (arrive early / late) and avoid the busy rush hour? I am not sure Alton would be any better, as you would still have to deal with 270 in West County, which stats show is the busiest section of I-270 (from I-70 to I-44: http://www.modot.mo.gov/safety/docum...District06.pdf). Perhaps there may be some difference between a commute from the south side (crossing the JB Bridge at 255) vs the Chain of Rocks Bridge (270) based on the direction of the traffic? I am not sure, though.

Well - I don't drive them, but I just hear about them, so it's hard for me to say 'when' to NOT be on 270. Sorry. My guess - Typical rush times ... say 7 - 9 am, 4-6 pm?

Anyone out here that deals with 270 druing peak times that can help?

Coming from I-64 in Illinois I have no delays in traffic. I work from 9 to 6pm though. If you have a flexible schedule you can avoid traffic completely. Luckily every job I've had allowed that.

I do N-270 around 7:15-7:20a and S-270 around 4:45p...I have no problems because I find I'm going the opposite direction of the heaviest traffic. Little bit of a bottleneck around Olive/Ladue...but only about 2-3 min holdup in the afternoons.

Granted I'm only on 270 for a bit...entering from 40, exiting Page. Vice versa in the afternoons.

Overall, not that bad for me.

The issue with 270 is that between 64 and Page the area is slightly accident prone and you very often have a couple of lanes blocked for one reason or another. It can get quite frustrating at times. My neighbor has to do the busy commute from Kirkwood to Creve Coeur and he just hates it bad. He works in customer service so no chance of shifting his work hours either.
