Glad you all enjoy the pictures.
Tina B, I will be happy to answer your question as will others here, but do us a favor and clarify a bit?
What do you mean by "standard of living"?
If I were to answer this with my own interpretation I would tell you it is the best standard of living I have ever experienced and this is the 3rd state I have lived in. Yes, pay is not as much as in other states,(both my husband and I have good careers) but I find my money goes further here dollar for dollar. I also have time to enjoy life and my children. There is lots of things to do that are close by and don't cost a fortune to do. We can take the kids to Dollywood, spend the whole day, have a great time and spend less than $75 for 4 of us. Granted we do buy season passes every year, but when you go at least 8 times though out the year, which is less than once a month,(it is closed 2 months during winter) it averages out to about $30 per person per day and we go about 8-10 times a year because the shows and attractions change every month.
There is also day trips to either caves, hiking trails in the mountains, fishing, and many other activities that cost basically the gas to get there and as it is all relatively close, it is about 1 tank per trip.
As for day to day, the people I come in contact with are friendly, the traffic is a breeze, if I need to run out and grab something at a store, it only takes a few minutes...........yea, my "standard of living" here is high and FANTASTIC!!!! Why? Because it is a great "quality of living" that is most important to me. Sure, we own a nice house and keep our yard aesthetically pleasing, our cars are kept in good maintenance and I make sure my children have clean clothes and their hair is cut. We don't shop at Macy's or Sax ( I wouldn't even if we had those here) but we live a normal average middle class life and never feel like we are in the thick of the "rat race" just like 80% of our neighbors here in the Tri-Cities region.
I hope that answered you question?
