We are moving to the Katy area soon & will be taking a trip to South Padre in a few weeks before my husband starts his new job. We are a family of 5, children ages 9, 7 & 4. We are staying on the beach & plan to do a lot of beach/pool etc., but I'm wondering what else is there to do?

I'm thinking of doing a dolphin watch cruise or something like that so would love advice on those if anyone has experience with different ones.

What other types of fun family/kids activities are there?

Thank you!!

The Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville is great, & a LOT less crowded than the Houston Zoo Gladys Porter Zoo

Easy. Check their Visitors Bureau (right at the entry road) once there.

South Padre Island Convention & Visitors Bureau
610 Padre Boulevard
South Padre Island, TX 78597

Collect flyers. This will keep you guys busy.

My personal favorites:
Dolphin watch cruise
Pirate sunset cruise
Turtle Inc. - Sea Turtle, Inc. - South Padre Island - Rehabilitation, Education, Conservation - Kemp's Ridley Turtle Rescue

There is plenty more. All info in the Visitors Bureau.

You might want to post this on the general Texas forum, it can get kinda buried here in Houston!

Pirate's Landing looks really cool, definitely will have to check it out. I'd love to take the kids on the Pirate cruise, but it is kind of expensive. Does anyone know of any discounts or coupons?

Recommend Schlitterbahn, might be cheaper to get a pass. We will go first thing in the morning and then leave when it gets crowded in the afternoon, then come back for any evening entertainment they have. You can also bring a cooler of food and drinks rather than purchasing at the restaurant, although the food is pretty good.

If the older children like to go fishing, they might want to go out bay fishing. Usually leaves early in the morning back by noon. You can sign up for a lot of activities if you take a right on the street after you cross the bridge to SPI. There's a marina that advertizes tours and Dirty Al's is there, great place for shirmp!

Bring a flashlight to hunt for crabs when the sun goes down in the evening.

Bring a kite to fly where you set up your towels and chairs. We often walk the beach and the kite is a good visual in the sky as to where our stuff is. Kids love kites!

Sandyfeet gives sand castle building lessons great for a family photo op! sandy feet sandcastle services of South Padre Island, Texas
