Do you prefer/like living in a city/town that is small, big or somewhere inbetween? I prefer a city that is small enough to where I don't feel overwhelmed but big enough to where I don't have to go to another city for the things I need. I live in Texarkana and it fits my needs pretty well. Couldn't live anywhere smaller than this though.

Well, I have lived in a mid-sized metro for most of my life and I like it pretty well. However, I do want to live in big metros at some point again.

Texarkana has more people in it than my entire Texas county.

"My town" is almost 4 miles away and it only has 1200 people. Being retired from large cities, I have few needs now. However, this place fills the one I now need the most, space.

This is highly subjective. There are crappy small towns and there are some really great small towns. Same goes for cities - small, mid-size, and large. I grew up in a big city, lived in some even bigger cities, and now I live in a town of only 2,600 people. Fortunately, I only live an hour away from a small city and can get my city fix whenever I need to fairly easy. I have grown to appreciate the small town life though, but I would HATE it in many other small towns.

The one thing I pretty much universally despise is suburbs. Give me a small town, or put me close enough to the center of the city so that I can see skyscrapers from my bedroom window. Anything in between is just purgatory in my book.

I love big cities but have learned to really appreciate the small town. Not all small towns if course, I don't idealize the notion of a small town but I've learned to appreciate a lot of small towns like Georgetown, Marble Falls, and Fredericksburg. I think I would like to retire in a small town outside of a major city.

I couldn't and don't know how ppl live out in the middle of nowhere.

I tend to like smaller mid-size cities. I grew up in DFW, but I feel very comfortable in Abilene. If I had to pick a range, I'd say I prefer 75k-350k for a metro area. Cities that size have everything I need, but they aren't so big that it's overwhelming or congested.

Actually I hate living where I can see another house ... so I don't. Guess you can say I am a "No Town" person!!

Grew up in a small town. Got bored, couldn't find work, and now live in suburban Houston. While I love being within 15-20 minutes of multiple Target stores, comic book stores, and a massive electronics store, I still miss the informal, welcoming nature of the small town. I've had co-workers from Bridge City and El Campo that said the exact same thing. So periodically I have to get away from the suburbs and recharge. I do this by retreating to places like Natchitoches, Brenham, or Fredericksburg. I love Fredericksburg, and would move there in a heartbeat. But then again I would miss Fry's electronics and proximity to more than one symphony. So for me the ideal life would be to have a residence near (not in) the city, and another in the country. Unfortunately I am not wealthy, so that may not happen...
