I did not read the entire thread, but what I skimmed did not mention any of the Mexican Bakeries. I guess most are in San Antonio and along the border. They have some of the best stuff and not as sweet or fattening as the German or Italian or Cszech bakeries. At least I think so. I get breads and pastries from them. I still love the other ethnics, but I get fat from them.

More than likely, I would think the Mercado area in downtown SA would have several.

There is a section of dallas that has some delicious panaderias. I believe it is East dallas but I don't know. In the larger more metropolitan cities there are plenty. Also in Belton, Texas, there is one called La Perla. It looks a little shady but their pan dulce is delicious. In Temple, there is another one but I cannot remember the name.

Definitely Upper Crust and Sweetish Hill in Austin.

Also La Mexicana on S. First Street.

Yum.

And, should I have failed to mention, Pie Peddlers in Glen Rose. They do a good job there. It's also got great ambience, being in a town-square-type setting.

By the way, I have thought about a place in West Plano that does decorative cakes and pastries. I drive by there from time to time. The name escapes me at the moment (so you Dallasites or Planoites might want to help me on this one), but it's at Park Blvd at the Dallas North Tollway and next to SuperTarget. What's the name of that place?
