Of course there are friendly and unfriendly people everywhere. As an adult I have lived in California, which I thought was friendly (although I grew up from age 8 there); Colorado--kind of cool, not friendly or unfriendly--but you were not family; Louisiana, again mostly friendly--but some snobbier; Texas--VERY few snobs that I ran into; and then Georgia--VERY unfriendly in my experience the majority of these people are downright mean to rude which SHOCKED me having vacationed in Florida, Mississippi and Alabama at different times where they seem friendlier anyway on the surface.

I'll say this for the drivers ... I pass folks all the time out here on these rural roads. total strangers, and we wave to each other. Now, working traffic on the freeways of Houston ... naw, not even hardly. I think that it is a competitive thing plus a survival mode thingy. I will say this though, despite the congested traffic I frequently have other motorists "make a hole" for me when I'm trying to merge from a busy upramp! I lived in Maine for a while ... now that was an experience!

You have obviously not lived in Maryland New york or Wisconsin! Folks in West Texas are the best!

In addition to Texas being friendly, Northwest Florida - the panhandle - is a real friendly area to strangers, too. I think it's because they are so used to tourists coming to the beautiful beaches. I'm speaking of the areas around Destin/Ft. Walton/Navarre/Pensacola. People are just really friendly there. This area is known as "The Emerald Coast" but also called "The Redneck Riviera" It's nickname is "LA" as in lower Alabama

Someone mentioned Georgia not being friendly but I've found those in North Georgia to be very friendly and "down home". Tennessee is another place where you'll meet very friendly people to strangers. They don't call it Southern Hospitality for nothing.

We've been here since November of last year and my wife and I still remark to each other how friendly folks are here (San Antonio)

I've heard that many times that West Texas people are really different and ever so friendly than in most parts of Texas. That's nice.

Well, I grew up in Texas and I have to say that it is more friendlier than here in Arizona. Most Arizonians don't want to help in some way, sometimes. While most Texans will help you anyway they can. Most people smile and greet you in Texas. Not so much in Arizona though and they talk about me when they see me come in with a smile and being nice. This place is for the mean people...NO OFFENSE...

There are other states that are friendly but there is something diffierent about the Texas kind of friendly.
I totally agree with. They treat you like you were one of their own members of the family. Not here in Arizona.

I'm from the Southeast part of Texas (Houston, Beaumont, Galveston, etc.) and they are very friendly folks there too.

When I traveled to Texas I was SHOCKED at how friendly the people were. I mean even driving people will nod at you to say hello. SHOCKING. I think the unfriendly people are probably transplants and aren't real Texans.

I travel alot and I have to say that some of the people in Arizonia were down right mean. I don't know if they were just angry day workers or just hated their jobs but one lady in a gas station just glared at me when I smiled at her. Then I was in a hotel and I was carrying my bags from the car and 3 maids were going by in a golf cart, they had to stop for me since I was in the road and they glared at me like I was in their way. Just being rude. It was at the Embassy and when I checked out and was asked about my stay there I told them about the incident. I never say anything but this was down right rude to give a guest an evil look.

It wasn't just a fluke. I went to AZ about 6 times in 2 years and stayed 2-3 weeks each time and noticed the same thing over and over. It actually made me change my mind about moving there. I don't want to live in an area where people glare at you when you smile at them.
