Ten hours is my limit. Growing up we used to make these long 15+ hour drives from Montana to Iowa and could only stop for gas. It led to lots of fights in the car. Humans are not meant to be in confined spaces together for that long. Ever since then I refuse to drive marathon distances like that.
I do 1000 miles, up around 5am try to get 100 in before breakfast and first stop for gas. Quick biscut and cofee and on the road until the gas is low. No real lunch, munchies, if there's a long empty stretch the wife takes a couple hours. Go until 7-8 PM gas up before checking in.
From my home one day is Oklahoma City, somewhere between Hustoon and San Antonio or Lemoore in California.
When I moved from Tennessee to Minnesota, it was a 20 hour drive, straight through, alone, with only three 10 minute stops for gas and to stretch my legs.
I love driving. I love road trips. But I'll never go that long without an overnight again when I'm by myself.
I'm planning on driving 16 hours straight... other than refueling and stretching... is 16 hours incredibly bad?
I've drove 620 miles in one day where I was the only one driving. I was going about 75mph the whole way except for about the first 30 minutes or so and I rested every couple hours for about 20 minutes. It took me about 10.5-11 hours.
The longest I've done was probably a 9 - 10 hour trip with me driving for about 8 hours from Northern Vermont back home to Northern NJ. It took that long because of a snow storm that covered most of the North East. That was pure agony that left me shaking and unable to sleep. I guess it did not help that I had to shovel off the driveway at home immediately after we arrived. I will never drive through the snow storm again; we should've really stopped at the motel for the night...
To enjoy the trip, I can see driving for 4-5 hours in a day. Drive 2 hours, stop and do something for 2 hours or so and then continue. Overall, I am not a big fan of driving and it is work for me...
My longest nonstop was New York City to Dayton, Ohio. It took me nearly 12 hours due to traffic in the NYC/NJ area. 6 PM to roughly 6 AM. Just brief stops were made for gas, restroom, and quick meals.
Driving through Pennsylvania nonstop at night is incredibly boring. Even when I'm in the mountains, views are generally dark or blocked.
I believe this was just over 600 miles.
I'd probably drive longer during the day in an interesting area, but chances are I'd end up making multiple long stops to visit new places along the way.
When I was younger I used to love to drive. Being the night owl. I would drive tandem with my Dad. I could tell when my Dad was getting tired, so we could switch.
Nowadays, I'm getting tired sooner. All the different shines coming at my eyes from headlights, crazy drivers, and bad weather conditions just taxes my vision. I don't think I could do more than 12 hours straight.

Absent an imminent death or similar... pretty much.
Slow down, take an extra day (or two), actually enjoy the sights along the way.
