We did it...Moving To Tri Cities
After much searching and looking every where on the west coast from San Diego to Seattle and from Spokane to Phoenix we finally found that the Tri Cities area is the best for our limited California retiree budget (home up to 240000) We are moving to Richland and to the Hawk Rapids (I think that is the name) area in a new house on a golf course. A great deal. We know it will be hot and dry (we are from Riverside California and know what heat can be) but I think we are going to like it. Everyone was very friendly and I have made peace with my Hanford fears so we can hardly wait. Thanks to all on this forum who helped in some way. We look forward to being in Washington.

You're probably referring to Horn Rapids. Tri-cities has been good to us. Good luck with your upcoming move!

You'll love it! So little traffic compared to SoCal, a good climate, and an area that I think is really going to explode in the next couple of decades. Nice investment! (And if you miss the big-city, don't forget your are only three hours from Seattle!)

Welcome to the Tri-Cities. You've just discovered the best kept secret in the Northwest. Friendly people, no traffic issues, clean air, low crime, 300+ days of sunshine, low cost of living, ammenities of a mid-sized community, and 3 hours from Seattle.
Hard to find much to complain about...

It sounds like we have made a good choice and will be there for good in September.
We are looking for a Protestant church in the Richland area. I am an ex choir director (30+years in the Methodist Church) and would love to volunteer in a small medium size church. Any suggestions.
I also am a Harley rider and wonder if it is really worth it to own one there in Washington. I ride a lot here in SoCal but wonder if the riding opportunities are good in Tri Cities and wether there is a good Harley dealer in town?
Finally I am a barbershop quartet singer and wonder if there is a chapter of SPEBSQSA in the Tri CIties area.
You may answer off line if you wish.

Welcome to Richland and the Tri-Cities! I am a UM pastor in Pasco. You'll find six UM churches in the Tri-Cities area - one in Richland - Central United Protestant (not small) two in Kennewick (West Highlands is mid-sized) and two in Pasco (both small, but Riverview has an excellent choir of about 30 members.) Yep, that's my church. The sixth church is in Benton City, an easy drive from Richland with a smaller and delightful congregation. We'd love to see you when you get here. There is a Harley dealer in town, but as my husband and I ride a Gold Wing (yikes!) I don't know what a good Harley dealer looks like. And yes, we have a chapter of SPEBSQSA in the Tri-Cities area. Get in touch with me when you get in - one of my parishioners is a member.

Thanks for the nice reply. We will be there (in Richland on Sawgrass Loop) in about three weeks. we are looking forward to our new home. We are both retired and have high hopes that Tri Cities will make us forget SoCal and quickly.Would love to worshiip with you. My First wifes brotehr is a Methodist Pastor in Bozeman Montana I think the Methodist church still appeals to me plus all my experience in the music departments of the Methodist church. We look forward to meeting you. Maybe a aADDRESS FOR THE CHURCH OR THE NAME AND DIRECTIONS. iS IT FAR???Thanks
Ron

Please update your move for us all. I considered the Tri-Cities home from 1990-1996. The changes since then have been dramatic, but it is still affordable. As for the church situation, the area is mostly conservative, (a rarity in Washington), but you will find the people to be mostly friendly and accepting of newcomers. This area LOVES new business and new residents, and hopefully that won't become it's downfall.
Check out West Pasco...an area that didn't even exist 10 years ago, now a vibrant, growing area.
