I heard this on NPR this morning...chicago has had over 100 killings and over 400 shootings(non deaths) since the year has started. This is more than double that of last year. What an absolute tragedy.

Well when I was in New York this past week I heard on the news that they said one of the reason why stabbings were up was because gun usage/access to guns in the city have decreased. Not sure if this is true but I can definitly see the correlation, similar reason why London has such a bad knife problem.

Which is a good thing because just imagine how many people could of been killed if the attacker had a gun instead of a knife. I can maybe only recall one stabbing death in NYC this year that i've seen on the news and it was the guy in Astoria who went on rampage.

Well, this is kind of a good thing, look at Chicago, it has about 400 shooting victims compare to NYC 385 stabbing victims, one city has +100 homicides and the other has like 40... Like one said earlier, stabbing in London is very high because people has no access on guns, the same is happening in NYC, they traded guns for knifes and we all know that it is way harder to kill someone with a knife than it is with a gun

NY's always had a knife problem. It's just worse this year than last year.

NY has well over 600 stabbings/slashings now according to the news. It had 381 in January and the first 2 days of February. Also Chicago appears to be at 582 people shot now.

The stabbing murder rate in Chicago is a lot higher than London's combined gun and knife murder rate though. Chicago already has 11 stabbing homicides which puts it on track for around 60. London usually totals 100 homicides for the year but London is more than 3 times the size of Chicago. Chicago's stabbing murder rate is higher than NY's as well. NY just has a lot of slashings.
