I bought and sold a couple of houses in the boom.. Got out on top and rented since. The market was showing weak signs and I wasnt going to be a sucker.

My rent is 2700 a month for a 1800sq condo on the beach with no ocean view. (Which is a STEAL!) The unit with the view above me sold for 750k in a matter of a couple weeks. My part of the complex is not ocean front, those are 1.5M

The cheapest single family residents here is 750k. If I want a home inland I can buy spend 500k and not get 2k feet.

So, at 150k+ a year (two jobs + wife) we still have to bust ass to make a $3500 base payment plus property tax, upkeep, cars and so on.. AND the Tulsa market is GOING UP! Not alot.. but enough to get my attention.

Not to mention that gas is $5 a gallon or close to it (thanks goodness I work from home)

The question is. How much is the weather worth?

Now.. Go to South Tulsa, Spend 300k or less, get a 3k foot home, $1500+ payment and make the same money..

And come on, my Sooners are only a 90mile or so drive.

I would be there right now.. But the wife is having a hard time letting go of California. We need to make some decision soon.. School starts in Augest.
Good luck to you surferguy. I hope you can get to Tulsa before football season starts!

Sounds to me that the money you save will let you fly to the coast a few times a year.............make a long commute to surf, but everything else is cheaper.........

Me too!!!! I can't wait til August, at least there is pre season NFL (better than nothing) and I get to go back and watch my Sooners in person for the OU/Cincinnati game. I also get to see them play Univ of WA at Husky stadium on Sept 13.

And to answer a few pages back, yes Seattle is nice. Just not what I thought it would be. I guess I was thinking of this quaint mountain town on the outskirts of Seattle and it's not. It's just like San Diego, but no fires or heat (thank goodness). People are still rude. Warmest it got here today is 73.

Goodpasture must have never been in Calif. There's plenty of friendly people, a huge variety of things to do, great weather (and if it's not great, there are plenty of close-by escapes). If you're coming to Tulsa for affordable property only, that's not worth the move. The "great" weather will destroy your home and yard, the criminal element will do their "thing" on your home or car, and traffic accidents are plentiful; relatively more than the crowded LA freeways.

Stay in CA. Enjoy the life, the fun, the people, the variety. You'll miss it here.

Goodbye nuggyhead.

And for the record, I didn't ban you because of a simple negative post. ALL commentary is welcomed on city-data.com as long as it is civil, and based on fact.

Your first two posts were nothing but out and out lies that do not represent the truth.

Does Tulsa have a crime problem?
Yes, and it's something that needs to be addressed, big time.

Does Tulsa have a street problem?
Yes and I wish the heck they'd get those roads fixed!

Does Tulsa have the same problems that any other large city has?
Yes, to a lesser and greater degree in many areas.

But to be a spearhead for disinformation about a particular area will not be allowed.

Criticism that is truthful, and especially constructive is not only welcomed, but encouraged; it's the only way problems will be thrust into the light of truth and shown for what they are.

But please, please don't think any of us fools that don't recognize a troll when we see one.

I'm done now, and so are you; at least in this incarnation of lefthook or whatever other negative nellie with nothing to contribute has to say.

That story sounds like why I left California, moved to Utah and now am in Oklahoma. You should talk your wife into moving here.
