I recently started watching this on Amazon Fire for free; original UK version. In 2 weeks I've made it to the end of season 4 and cant get enough. Love it!
I'm stopping here at page 45, so I don't read any spoilers ahead of where I'm at on the series.
My favorite line of tonight's episode is when Rose's father says to her mother "Get down, you cat!"
Definitely, though it was somewhat insulting to cats.
For fans of classic British TV - Lord Sinderby is played by James Faulkner, who played Herod Agrippa in I, Claudius in 1976. I wasn't sure of the actor's name, but after a few minutes of seeing Lord Sinderby and hearing him speak; I was sure enough that he had played Claudius' friend Herod that I was motivated to check - it was the actor's eyes and cheekbones that were familiar. His voice hadn't changed much either.
Hope they're going to spring poor Anna before the end of the season. She and Bates have the worst luck!
The common people back then usually had large families , once a week bath if they were lucky enough to have a gas boiler that could take up to two hours or more to heat up, then that would only give them enough hot water for one bath tub ,then the heater didnt get turned on again until the next bath night ...too expensive to keep the hot water on constantly .
They bathed starting with the oldest and working on down to the youngest. Thus, the phrase "Don't throw the baby out with the bath water." By the time the youngest got into the tub the water was nearly black.
Another striking line (apart from Sinderby's cat comment) was the arresting cop's rejoinder to Lady Mary, 'I don’t care if you’re the Queen of the Upper Nile'. The strong arm of the law not giving a toss for deference.
The season finally was great and I will watch it again. Great TV series and I can't wait for next season.
The way this series portrait the changes the people went through at that time is so perfectly shown and I. Never realized it were so many...from the beautiful fashion that changed over time to more easier dress codes but left some of the beauty behind. JMO!
From the very big class differences to the women getting more saying, etc.
I hope Rose is happy with Atticus and has no more use for her awful Mother.
I'm glad they did a special plaque for Mrs. Patnoe's nephew.
The only thing I disliked about this season was the long drawn out storyline with the Bate's and Mr. Green. And now Anna has been arrested. I hope she's innocent and this SL comes to an end because it's been boring!

With childhood mortality being what it was, you would think they would have done it the other way around. I guess it was resistance building though.
