This one shouldnt have been a shock though. It's been flirting with cancellation all 4 season it has been on.
Not true, or it wouldn't have lasted four seasons. Bad writing with preposterous plotting, unrelenting negativity and sadness, and out-of-character behavior is to blame for this year's decline in both quality and viewers. The excellent cast and wonderful music managed to keep "Nashville" watchable, despite these issues, but it was bad writing that has led to its demise, sadly.
What I really liked about Nashville was the unusual format where they would feature a full performance every show. Whether at the Bluebird, or the Opry or wherever. They did it a lot in the first couple seasons, but lately it's just been about ... well everything. Death, families torn apart, hate crimes, addiction, betrayal. Too much bad, not enough happy.

Awesome Performance! You got it right..."Too Much Bad! Not Enough Happy!" I miss the fun of Nashville. Remember when Juliette was pregnant and was spying on Avery while riding in some kind of wheelchair or cart! That was hysterical! Since Jeff died all darkness and depressing scenes.
I agree with all that has been posted. The cancellation news is very disappointing. I just saw the cast in a live concert on their tour. They seemed optimistic that there was going to be another season and this tour is supposed to continue this summer in the UK. The actors poked fun at the plots and characters.
I had read somewhere that this show was making money. Surely, they must be making money from selling the music and the live performances. I can't think of any other TV shows that had tie-ins with live concerts and sales of recorded music other than The Monkees or perhaps the Partridge Family, but that was only David Cassidy on tour or singing on the recordings.
It'll be back on another network.....give it a month and there will be an announcement.
Hope you're right!
Meanwhile, don't miss Elton John's performance on "Nashville" tonight, and if you Twitter, join in the "Nashcrash" five minutes prior to "Nashville"'s 10:00 p.m EST ABC start time.
Fixed it for you! Yes, Jonathan was great and he was the only reason I watched this show.
