Something that hasn't been mentioned here is his fathers contribution to who Dexter thinks he is or was trained to be. His father wouldn't allow Deb to have a puppy, even tho Dexter said he would have never harmed it.
His father feeds his self-image in a negative way.

Very true. I wonder if they are going to toss in a twist and show the father as the "dark passenger" that must be defeated. He took what he thought Dexter would be and made him that way. It kind of is setup as the father being the "dark passenger"; always keeping him on course and focused, approving of his actions when he does things the "right way", admonishing him when he tries to break free and constantly reminding him of his needs and who he is.

I think we saw a preview of that last season with Travis and the professor.

I'm so sorry. You probably want to avoid this thread until you get caught up, we are currently talking about season 7. It wouldn't be fair for you to ask us not to talk about it, ya think?

My husband says that Dexter, in the books, is a much more sinister character.

We all have heard of the stray cop taking drug money, sometimes groups of them, but I wonder if there were ever groups of cops going the other way, acting like Dexter, going against the bad guys and taking them out, subverting the system?

In the books you get a bigger taste of his dark passenger. In the show we just see the kills, in the books he tortures and continues to mutilate after he kills them and enjoys every minute of it.

Noticed a flaw tonight when the drug lord guy went to Victor's house it had a police seal on the door that he cut to go in? Can't figure out why when they never reported Victor missing? Did i miss something?
