It ends in January of 2013 because there are no more extensions. So whoever loses their job right now all they get is 26 weeks and after that no more UC.

Some states are paying less than 26 weeks so it maybe less!

The initial 26 weeks has nothing to do with the state is from the money you earned while working.

Yes welcome to Michigan and the Elephant that rode in as its only 20 weeks now! Really baffles me why they think it was a good idea to cut more weeks off of something that is already to short. 5 months really, who are they joking?

With both the Bush/Obama tax cuts and SS tax break also ending in Decemeber, a deal will be available to extend all 3, although I would expect number of weeks to be like the 90s recession.about 46.

Incorrect. Not all states have a maximum benefit of 26 weeks. MA can pay up to 30 weeks (not during periods of EUC/EB), Montana up to 28, FL as little as 12.

The individual states determine the amount of maximum weeks that a particular state will pay based on:
  1. state law
  2. employee earnings - and, in some cases -
  3. state UE rate.
Per FAQS:
Quote:
States currently offering less than 26 weeks – Effective 1/1/2012
Florida – 12-23 weeks, depending on unemployment rate, reduces by one week for every .5% reduction in UE rate, starting at 10.5%. Current 10% rate means 22 weeks, not 23.
Michigan – 20 weeks
Illinois – 25 weeks
Missouri – 20 weeks
South Carolina – 20 weeks
