The article you quoted does though bring up a good point about people, usually women in some communities who are pressured to accept the rulings of the religious courts in family matters which offer far fewer rights than the regular British courts.
Just to be clear though that Muslims are free to apply to the British courts for their full legal rights if they choose.
If women are being pressured into accepting being treated as inferior citizens by tribunals backed by law then yes, imposed is exactly the right word. Why does this hardly get a mention in the press to the extent that most people do not even know it is happening? Perhaps tricked is a better word. I accept immigration to this country, but don't accept barbaric medieval injustice backed up by British courts. Imagine if there were separate courts passing disdcriminatory judgements against blacks and gays; the liberals who are silent about Sharia Law would be squealing like stuck pigs.

Imposed on members of a community by others of that community is different than imposed on the entire nation. I'm not arguing with all of your point, I am concerned about the use of language and how it leads to serious misunderstanding.

The pope, and therefore catholic religious law already passes discriminatory judgements against gays by the way. Muslim and Jewish law does too. Not sure about the Anglicans but I am sure the Free Presbyterians discriminate against everybody.

My point is that Sharia is a religious law that covers people of a specific faith and Muslims aren't the only ones who have one.

Reading some of the responses here helps me to understand the attitude that led to the Libyan Lockerie bomber being let go by the Scots.
Nothing wrong going on here, just move along........

What an idiotic and ignorant comment. Why don't you just do yourself and the rest of the world a favor and stay home?

I'm sorry. What's ignorant or idiotic about it? Are you saying London doesn't have a large Middle Eastern community?

The US also has a large Middle Eastern community, it also has at least 11,000,000 illegal Mexicans living there as well.

No we don't, it's like .42% of the country, and most of them are Maronite Catholics who left Lebanon. 63% of them are Christian according to Wikipedia. So no, we don't have the Anjem Choudhury problem like you do. And to compare illegal Mexicans who are western to your immigration problem is absurd.

Your "model" British house of commons (aka House of Commons for young people), whatever you want to call it, aired on C-SPAN like 3 weeks ago and half the girls there had their hair covered in Islamic dress. If that is what your country to become, then so be it. I know that you'll try to claim the ground of tolerance and call me racist like a typical blind European (even though Islam isn't a race), but rest assured that they are not tolerant of you.
