They are also very friendly in Scotland.

I was chatting to a Swedish/Norweigan couple at the weekend.

They live in Glasgow and remarked on how friendly people are.

Nice to hear. When my family/friends visit us here they are very impressed by how friendly and funny Scots are.

They are and I love it. I love taking the bus now (since I'm over 60) and listening to people chat. Also love waiting for the bus as everybody talks to each other. Nothing like London where people can wait for the same train/bus every day year after year and never say a word to each other.

All of them? Wouldn't one admit to there being more than a hint of an unsubstantial generalisation about that remark?

Nope, I have been to London and I thought that the people were very rude and self-absorbed. They did not care about anyone else in their way, you would get constantly shoved and pushed without any apology. They were very grumpy also.

You remind me of someone else from Northern Ireland who used to post, but hasn't of late.

He'd come out with broad sweeping statements just like you are coming out with.

do you know of any large city where people seem friendly and will talk to strangers on the street??

I find that in London that people are always apologizing. Even when something is my fault, I get the 'sorry'.
