No, the equivalent in the UK would be calling the Premier League the World Cup. Those different nationalities in the NFL are not representing their country, they are playing for a US team.
You are going off track from the original comment.
Ian is just trying to be awkward, I don't think he is very sporty hence his confusion between national leagues and international teams.
It is called banter! Maybe it is the English who have the chip on their shoulder? Can't take a bit of banter? We, a country of 5 million, played great against you, a country of 50+ million. We know we are weak at this moment in time, but England actually think they are good. That's what we find amusing. It is only in football though, in every other form of sport I root from anyone from the UK over anyone else.

Not really good, just better than you. England is the only UK representative in the World Cup (usually). That has to count for something - even if they're not particularly good anymore (if they ever were, but my interest in football is extremely limited).
You won't hear me denying that. But you are a big country who invented the game, it's not surprising. You should compare yourself with Spain, Italy and Germany not Scotland!

I actually thought soccer was invented in Scotland, when soldiers thought it'd be a good idea to kick around the decapitated heads of enemy soldiers. Sounds like something a Scotsman would think up lol jk.
MLS could franchise a team in France and it would compete in MLS, the World Series could franchise a team in Germany and it would compete in the World Series. Location is irrelevant, being a franchise is everything.
Just a point of sports history..
When the 'WORLD' Series here was set up, baseball was all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed in that they thought the sport would be set up say in Europe, right, like a 'franchise'. hehe well it didn't work out to well, baseball really didn't get implanted into countries around the world. So I guess it looks like the baseball guys as we can see were lazy to take the moniker of WORLD aways from SERIES. What can you do? They sure aren't going to screw up that 'franchise' by taking off 'WORLD'.

People here do compare ourselves with those teams - rather naively. We're probably more comparable to France than any other team, as they're not so great, even if they are sometimes seen as one of the 'better' teams.
We're not going to be bored to death with Scots' contributions to the world, are we?
