The fact of the matter is the British will not let Putin bully them, Russia needs punishing for its actions, I'm sorry but Russian mentality is 50 years behind most of the rest of the developed world, their views on women or people in same sex relationships is so 1950's and so it seems is their outlook on the 'West'. Russia lost the cold war 30 years ago but it doesn't seem to have moved on. At the end of the day you can threaten all you like but there is nothing you can do militarily, its perfectly simple any nuclear attack on Britain from Russia (or the other way round for that matter) and the world goes to hell in a handcart, in the 21st Century warfare is economical and Putin will have to think seriously about his 20th Century foreign policy if he wants to get on with the rest of the world.
actually, the russian view dates back to the invasion of mongols. This brought the russians out of the European sphere of influence and instilled in them the mentality of the barbarians. Not that european invasions of helped in making them even more paranoid to outside world.
Just need to to wait the russians out. Their population is declining. Their population is only 150 million. The population of europe is 400 million and the population of the US is 300 million.
Russian leaders have to spin propaganda to their citizens because their citizens will kill them if they fail. They did not build the institutions of democracy to create the pressure release for the people. They had a chance after the wild west 90s was stabilized.
Plus, nothing innovative comes out of russia excepts guns and gas. The US has already become #1 energy producer which could wean off europe's russian dependency.
Russia is focused on the west that they forget about their far east. THousands of chinese are settling there since the russian population decreases. Russian women do not want to marry russian men because they drink and beat them so they marry the chinese.
you're basically seeing the last outbursts of a stagnant regime. There is nothing but the cold in russia. that is why so many drink. They are cold and miserable. They no pain so sanctions generally do not work.

a. Doesn't represent any danger for Putin
b. Stayed for 5 years in Russian prison ( and ample opportunity to finish him off, don't you agree?)

Russia has been pivoting to the east for years, economic and strategic integration with China is by design so are the integration zones in the east. Russians and Chinese hold cabinet level meeting pretty much on a monthly basis, there are talk of an integrated Space Agency, etc....

Maybe in soviet times...but you always thought you're scientists would overthrow the state. A lot technology that US has was actually researched by the russians. Russia is china's vassal state especially after the invasion of crimea. Once they reverse engineer your aircraft engines, they have no use for you. THey don't even need you for space know how. Most of their space tech is soviet tech which they already copied.
