Jay Peak day tickets cost $89. Generally, the major western major destination resorts now have $200 walk-up lift ticket prices. Look at the trip math. Drive to the airport. Pay for airport parking. Pay for the flight. Car rental or airport transportation on the other end. Lodging is easily twice the price. Food & beverage is double. Lift tickets are double. You can do the Utah cottonwood canyon ski areas on the cheap staying in Salt Lake but even latching on to a group trip, those other places are at least $2,000 per person double occupancy trips. I see Aetna ski club at PCMR mid-February for $1,985 and you're staying a half mile from town.
I've known Steve Wright, the President of Jay Peak, for 20+ years. It's a well managed resort. People like working there. It gets the most natural snow in the east. The operations of the resort has nothing to do with all the "buy a US visa" fraud. I wouldn't go there in January when it's freakin' freezing but it's a great spot for a long weekend in March and a great value compared to the Vermont resorts farther south.
For a 9 or 10 day trip? I'm doing the airplane ticket. Vermont hasn't really been in the ski week business for decades. It's a weekend/long weekend place.
